The North Texas Tornadoes of 10/21/19 and What It Could Mean For Your Home

Last night we set out for the weekly drive home to our Downtown Dallas highrise apartment from my parents North Richland Hills home with little idea to the magnitude of the storm that was brewing across North Texas. As we drove up and over the 183 on-ramp from Davis Blvd, we could see that there were dark and dangerous looking clouds developing in all directions, but we had yet to experience any diverse conditions.

As we drove home it continued to appear as if trouble was ahead, but it still had yet to show it’s face. We arrived home without giving the storms second thought and began our nighttime routine.

Once we had put our kids to bed, we began to hear the tornado sirens almost in lockstep with receiving texts from family and friends asking if we were ok. Our social media feeds became flooded with posts and clips of the storm. My wife’s mom group chat from church was filled with moms asking about what to do that the sirens started roaring near their houses.

It’s been my experience, after having lived in Texas the majority of my life, that the downtown areas seldom get hit by a tornado as a result of the skyscappers and concentration of buildings disrupting the winds from allowing themselves to develop. We opened our bedroom window shades to see the storm and the impending developments, but never experienced anything greater than some mighty wind gusts and a lone plastic bag that was being thrown about.

Fast forward to Monday morning. I woke up, got ready for the day, and soon realized how lucky my family was. Scrolling through my Facebook feed resulted in a constant flow of articles and posts from friends about the damage that had been done overnight by a series of tremendous storms that had wreaked havoc only a few miles north of where we live.

Serious damage had been caused in several major areas, resulting in damaged and destroyed business and homes across North Dallas and near Love Field. Luckily, it was reported that there were zero casualties from the storm.

North Texas weather can hit us fast and unexpected. When it does, we want help as fast and easily as possible. Here are a few major issues home owners across Dallas Fort Worth could be facing this morning and here’s a few places they can go for help.

DENT REPAIR

My wife’s friend in Mansfield texted her about golf ball sized hail that was landblasting their home. If you’re anything like my family, the cars hardly go in the garage and the garage we have in not big enough to house all of the cars we have. Hail damage is expected when it comes to North Texas storms and the last thing you want is to have to bring one or more of your cars in to the shop to sit for weeks getting dent repair. Intellident offers some of the most convinient dent repair service in DFW. Their valet service offers you a free rental car and a come to you business model where they will switch out your damaged car for a rental by simply meeting you where you are.

ROOF DAMAGE

Surely there will be an influx of fly by night roofers making their was across the metroplex today in an urgent matter. We are all weary of these companies, but it can be hard to distinguish who is legitimate and who is not. That’s why Homester Home Services does the heavy lifting of sorting through these companies and only recommending validated and highly trusted professionals. Check out some of the trustworthy roofers on The Homester App like Select Construction and Core 4 Contractors.

We hope all of our North Texas friends are safe after the storm. And for those of you who were effected, please let us know how we can help point you in the direction of the home service professionals who can help get you and your home back to 100%.
